FAQ, TIP, EXAMPLE

Q. Is it possible to model using 2D dwg information in CIM?

A. With DWG / DXF Import function, Base Mode, User Section Mode, Draw Rebar Mode, etc.

You can utilize DWG files in a variety of modeling spaces.

DWG / DXF Import

  • DWG / DXF Import function can be utilized in various modeling spaces.

  • In Base Mode (including Base Tab of Library), various shapes such as Edge, Face, Solid, etc. can be modeled using the DWG / DXF Import function, but the
created Solid model is not linked with analysis as a Body Type. (Figure 1)

  • You can use the DWG/DXF Import function in User Section Mode to create a section. (Figure 2)

  • In Draw Rebar Mode, reinforcing bar properties can be assigned by importing reinforcement drawings prepared in Cad. (Figure 3 & 4)

Base Mode : File > Import > DWG/DXF

Figure. 1 Import DWG/DXF

  • Defines the work plane of the global coordinate system (GCS) for objects imported from DWG and DXF files.

  • Red (X-axis direction), Green (Y-axis direction), Blue (Z-axis direction)

  • However, a model using an object imported from DWG and DXF files in Base mode is created as a body type solid element, not a member element.

  • The reason that it is created as a solid element is because it is not possible to define section properties for geometry.

What is User Section?(Figure 2)

  • User Section: It is used to create an object by defining the section information as a single piece of information.

  • After defining the first properties in the user section, import the DWG/DXF file to define the cross-sectional shape to be modeled.

  • Section properties can be defined like the SPC function of midas Civil, and the defined shape and section properties can be analyzed and interlocked with midas Civil.

Figure. 2 Import DWG/DXF in User Section Mode

  • Objects imported from DWG and DXF files are defined in the XY plane of the global coordinate system (GCS).

  • Red (X-axis direction), Green (Y-axis direction)

What is Draw Rebar Mode?(Figure 3 & 4)

  • Draw Rebar Mode: Enter Rebar Draw Mode to draw a rebar on a plane.

  • By importing DWG/DXF files, you can import lines to reference between rebar creations.

Draw Rebar Mode : File > Import > DWG/DXF

Figure. 3 Enter Draw Rebar Mode

  • In Draw Rebar Mode, the user can directly select the edge or vertex to place the rebar.

  • With the DWG/DXF Import function, you can select and place rebar layers drawn in CAD.
