Overview of Functions

Sectional Property Calc [Shortcut command : SPC]

This is the same function as the Sectional Property Calculator in MIDAS CIVIL, and supports calculating CIVIL sectional properties for objects existing in MIDAS CAD INFRA-DESIGN and exporting them as .sec files.

INFRA-DESIGN > SPC

  • SPC Section List : Indicates the cross section list for calculating cross section properties.

  • Preview : Shows a preview of the calculated cross section.

  • Add : Opens a panel for calculating cross-section properties.

  • Modify : Modifies the results of section property calculations.

  • Delete : Delete the cross section whose properties were calculated from the list.

Calculate Section Properties

Click the ‘Add’ button in the SPC function

Specify the section name and type.

Specify the section name and type.

  • Section Name : Enter the name of the section

  • Section Type : There are three section types (Plane, Line, and Composite), and how to define the cross-section according to type is explained below.

1) SPC section definition of Plane section type

  • Select External Object : Select the external closure object. Only the outermost closed section of the selected total object is recognized.

  • Select Internal Object : Select the internal closed object. If there are multiple internal objects, select one closed section in turn.

  • Mesh Density : Select Mesh Density.

2) SPC section definition of Line section type

SPC section definition of Line section type

  • Define Thickness : Select the line object and enter the thickness. The entered thickness is temporarily applied to the line object and disappears when the ‘Calculate section properties’ window is closed. The preview retains the thickness applied.

  • Define Close Section : Select the closed object. If there are multiple objects, select one closed section in turn.

  • Specify Curve Precision : Curve precision refers to the degree of division when Spline and Ellipse must be divided into Line for calculation.

  • Create with Steel Design Type : When Checked On, the ‘Design Group Setting’ tab is activated and you can define Top, Bottom, Right Web, and Left Web information.

3) SPC section definition of Composite section type

SPC section definition of Composite section type

  • Setting Material : When you click, the ‘Setting Material’ window is activated, and you can define the name of the material, modulus of elastic, Poisson’s ratio, etc.
The Base option specifies the Base Material that will be the basis for substitution. (For composite sections, the materials must be replaced by one to calculate the section properties of the entire cross section.)

  • Base Material : The Base Material specified in the Setting Material window appears.

  • Number of Parts : Select the number of parts.

CIVIL section properties calculation button and table setting

CIVIL section properties calculation and table setting

  • Calculate CIVIL Section Properties : Calculate section properties

  • Force Unit : This is an option that specifies the force unit of the table, such as KN, kgf, tonf

  • Length Unit : This is an option that specifies the length unit of the table, such as mm, inch, or ft.

  • Precision : This is an option to specify the number of decimal places to express.

  • Layer : Option to specify the Layer for the table.

  • Font : Option to specify the font for the table.

Option

Specify additional options.

  • Result Location : This is an option to select where the section results are output.

  • Object Hatch : This is an option to select whether or not the object will be hatched.

  • Create Section Result : This is an option to select the section result output method.

  • Mesh Density Preview Window : When you click the 'Calculate CIVIL Section Properties' button, you can see the mesh preview window after calculation.

Preview

You can check the section preview and calculated section properties.

  • Preview : Show a section preview.

  • Sectional Property
